Overview
Oceana’s 2013 Baltic expedition gathered biological data and information on fishing activities to support Oceana’s proposals on Marine Protected Areas and fisheries management in this sea. A small, portable underwater robot (ROV) capable of reaching depths of 100m was used alongside a team of scuba-divers and underwater photographers and videographers.
Marine scientists from Oceana’s Baltic office designed each leg of the expedition and, following an analysis of the findings, they are now available to researchers and decision-makers.
The 2013 expedition marked the first time Oceana developed a coastal mission which was aimed to complement the data gathered during the organisation’s 2011 and 2012 at-sea expeditions.
