Lucinda Birk

Social Media Specialist

Oceana Staff

In Denmark, the coast is nowhere more than 52 km away. Born and raised in the capital of Copenhagen, Lucinda has therefore always lived close by the ocean. When she was a child, she spent countless hours snorkeling on vacations. Later, she got her scuba diving certificate and has dived with bull sharks in Fiji, turtles by the Great Barrier Reef, and barracudas in Greece. More recently, she started exploring the beautiful and often overlooked diving sites in Denmark, meeting lobsters, nudibranch, and beautiful corals. As a student at the University of Copenhagen, she went to Santa Barbara, California on exchange and later interned at the Royal Embassy of Denmark in Ghana, before achieving her MA in Rhetoric in 2019. Drawing on her education in classical communication theory, Lucinda has a passion for communicating about life underwater and the threats it faces. Having spent many hours working on social media platforms before joining Oceana, she is keen to reach broader audiences to show in real time what happens in the marine ecosystems – and in the EU. When Lucinda is not scuba diving or biking around in Copenhagen, she enjoys spending her days dancing salsa and bachata, reading novels, or going on adventures all around the world.
