Dr. Dana Miller is Oceana’s Director of Strategic Initiatives, where she leads the organization’s global corporate campaigns to stop the flow of single-use plastics into our oceans.

Dr. Miller holds a Ph.D. from University College Dublin (UCD) in Ireland, an MSc in Conservation and Biodiversity from Trinity College Dublin (TCD), and a BSc in Marine Biology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada. She also has over four years of experience as a postdoctoral researcher at UBC and ten years of professional experience working on advocacy campaigns within the non-profit sector, with both Oceana and WWF.

Dr. Miller’s academic work has focused on a broad range of topics all relating to the conservation of the marine environment. Her 25+ peer reviewed publications have received over 1,000 citations and cover issues including illegal fishing, seafood mislabeling, ocean governance, habitat protection, marine pollution, and climate change. This work has also been written about in major national and international news outlets including the New York Times (US), Al Jazeera (Qatar), the BBC (UK), and the CBC (Canada).
