Baltic Expeditions: Overview

Oceana Baltic Expeditions

Oceana scientists and marine investigators undertake at-sea expeditions to document Baltic Sea habitats, species and fisheries. Divers and underwater robots (ROVs) help them gather evidence to support the protection of areas of ecological interest and information on illegal fishing. Upon conclusion of the expeditions, Oceana publishes reports and GIS maps that include all relevant findings. Our aim is to galvanize the EU and the Baltic Sea riparian national governments to enforce existing regulation on fishing practice and to increase the quality and quantity of the designated marine protected areas.

Oceana is grateful to Arcadia, Robertson Foundation, Zennström Philantropies and VELUX Foundations for generously supporting the Baltic Expeditions.
