El 1 de junio, el Oceana Ranger comenzó su expedición en Vigo, tras haber surcado las aguas del mar de Alborán, el golfo de Cádiz y Portugal. El equipo de científicos y fotógrafos submarinos investigó y documentó los lechos marinos gallegos frente a la isla de Ons, la Costa da Morte, las islas Sisargas y la ría de Ribadeo. También visitó las aguas asturianas frente al cabo de Peñas, Cudillero o Ribadesella; las cántabras entre Suances, Santander y el cabo de Ajo y aguas vascas en el cabo Matxitxako, Urdaibai, Mutriku y Cabo Higer, entre otras.
Oceana pudo realizar esta campaña gracias al apoyo de Fundación Biodiversidad , con el objetivo de conocer mejor los fondos marinos españoles y promover la creación de nuevas áreas marinas protegidas.
