This interactive viewer is a product developed by Oceana that focuses on 7 Mediterranean countries, contracting parties to the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean, that aggregates information about Essential Fish Habitats (EFH) distribution and protection measures taken both nationally and regionally. Its purpose is to present spatial information and data in a user-friendly interface. It informs and showcase examples of fishing closures that may contribute to protecting Essential Fish Habitats, and conversely illustrates where gaps in protection exist. It aims at encouraging GFCM Contracting Parties to provide information about EFH distribution as well as national measures related to EFH to improve the understanding and knowledge in the region. It also contributes to advancing the development of a consistent network of EFH in the Mediterranean Sea pursuant to the GFCM Resolution GFCM/41/2017/5 on a network of Essential Fish Habitats.
Disclaimer: The spatial information on EFH distribution is only displayed on the viewer where such data was publicly accessible to Oceana. Should you want to contact us on this topic, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
