Yesterday's agreement by EU bodies on a new regulation governing the European Union’s extensive external fishing fleet is a momentous step towards building sustainable fisheries globally and deserves wholehearted praise.

How can fashion help save the oceans?

This was the huge challenge Oceana and Uttopy gave to a group of young designers in Barcelona earlier in the year. To make things even harder, the designs had to focus on the biggest threat facing the oceans right now: overfishing. Not exactly the easiest design to doodle, right?

So, why on overfishing?

Overfishing is catching too many fish and at faster rate than what they can reproduce and grow. This means that year after year there are fewer and fewer fish to catch and consume.
