Policy Advisor – Sustainable Fisheries

Do you want to make a difference in protecting and restoring the abundance of Europe’s oceans? Oceana is looking for a Policy Advisor – Sustainable Fisheries (Europe) to support and help deliver our fisheries advocacy campaigns across the European Union. This is a Full time, temporary position (9-month fixed-term). The position will be based in Brussels (Belgium) or Madrid (Spain) and will work closely with a multidisciplinary, international team of scientists, campaigners, policy experts, and communications professionals.

In this role, the Policy Advisor will contribute to the design and implementation of advocacy strategies on European fisheries management, including key priorities such as the Western Mediterranean Multiannual Plan and the evaluation of the EU Common Fisheries Policy. The role involves direct engagement with EU institutions, Member States, and key stakeholders, as well as collaboration across Oceana’s European and global teams.

We are looking for a strategic and proactive professional with experience in policy advocacy, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with decision-makers. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working autonomously while contributing to integrated, high-impact campaigns that advance Oceana’s mission to protect and restore Europe’s oceans.

Key requirements include:

  • A degree in EU affairs, marine science, environmental conservation, or a related field
  • 3–4 years of relevant professional experience in policy, lobbying, or advocacy
  • Strong knowledge of EU fisheries and environmental policies and decision-making processes
  • Excellent written and spoken English (additional European languages are an advantage)
