Wednesday 26 June 2013
Finally I made it to the expedition! This is the day I have been waiting for since I said goodbye to the team in Malmö, in early June. It was very nice for me to join the crew in Åland Islands which is a special place to me as I have spent many summers there doing field work.
The first day was busy, packed with field work, meetings and media. In the morning we launched the boat at Nåtö Biological Station and divers went out to an area which we knew was possibly interesting because of eelgrass. Meanwhile the divers were in the water Xavier and I came back to Marienhamn to have lunch with the Environment Minister Carina Aaltonen and her colleagues. We talked with radio Åland and had a possibility to tell more about our work and activities in islands and in the Baltic Sea. After lunch we did another dive a bit further out close to Nåtö and gave another interview to a local newspaper.
All in all, another good day. Lots of sun and warmth and great experiences.
