We began work in the Gulf of Cadiz
Today we started working in the Gulf of Cádiz area between Rota and Mazagón, where we will be for approximately two weeks in order to research the seabeds in these waters.
Oceana has already researched this area in past campaigns due to its ecological and fishing importance. This is because these are highly productive waters that should be protected. Therefore, Oceana is proposing an expansion of the already protected marine area that belongs to Doñana National Park that presently consists of a narrow coastal strip with a small area. In addition, there is a marine wind farm facility project for this area in order to generate clean and renewable energy. Oceana is studying the seabeds where the facility is planned to be installed in order to demarcate the most suitable area for installing it without causing damage to coral beds existing in the area.
We have begun working with the ROV and the divers from the Ranger, until the new zodiac, Oceana Explorer arrives. Filming and photography will be done from the Oceana Explorer with divers, thus doubling the amount of information gathered for this area during the campaign.
