A Visit on Board
I was so happy to manage squeezing-in the opportunity in my schedule to visit our expedition in the Quark. And, equally, I was happy that my visit fit within the expedition’s schedule as well. It would have been such a pity to miss this chance while the crew was in Finnish waters.
We had Vasabladet, a regional newspaper, visit us in the morning. They followed our work as the divers went out and Aimi demonstrated them the drop camera and the CTD.
After lunch, the journalists were taken on shore and I got to join Aimi and Ruben with the drop camera. The quality of the footage is surprisingly good, and this method seems very handy in providing us with an overview of such a large area.
In the afternoon, the dive team did another dive while the other crew took a grab, organized samples and entered data.
But, everything must come to an end: In the evening, we returned to Vaasa, and tomorrow, I’ll be heading back home.
Thanks for the visit, it was great to get out at sea and remember once again why I want to do this work. The Quark is beautiful and unique, below and above the surface.
