The Sea Never Stops

The day started early in the best possible manner: raiding the buffet! Once our bellies were filled a long day in the sea awaited us. Today, we are heading to the port of Rää and need to catch a train and a bus to reach our destination.

Everything is prepared and checked well in advance before departing towards the channel between Helsingborg and Helsingør at one of the most northern sites of the expedition. The weather is good and the sun is shine, but distant clouds suggest the wind will soon pick up.

We were able to perform several dives during the morning despite the strong current. On deck we tried to figure out how to make the waves’ direction, water current and wind cancel out, but the sea was not in a cooperative mood. However, we cannot allow ourselves to get distracted even for a second because the slightest mistake could result in the ROV´s umbilical lead getting caught into the ship’s propeller. And we definitely don’t want that to happen.

Throughout the day the wind picks up. In the final dive of the day, things get tougher and we are forced to abort. We return to the port of Malmö and retire back to the hotel. Tomorrow will be another day with new challenges and surprises, as every day is at sea.
